38-Year-Old Polorencio Ack of Silver Creek Village Identified as Victim in Fatal Big Falls Road Crash

TOLEDO DISTRICT, BELIZE — Police have confirmed the identity of the man who tragically lost his life in a road traffic incident near Big Falls Village on Thursday night. The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Polorencio Ack, a respected ranger from Silver Creek Village, who died after the vehicle in which he was a passenger crashed near the Big Falls Bridge shortly after 6 p.m.

According to preliminary police reports, Ack was traveling in a vehicle driven by 18-year-old Anasario Cal, when the young driver lost control, causing the vehicle to crash. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but despite efforts, Ack succumbed to his injuries, leaving his family, friends, and community in mourning.

Authorities have since revealed that Cal did not possess a valid driver’s license. Instead, he was only issued a learner’s permit in late June, less than two months before the crash. This detail has raised serious concerns about the circumstances surrounding the incident and the dangers of inexperienced driving on rural roadways.

Cal, who sustained injuries in the collision, was transported to Punta Gorda Hospital, where he remains admitted in stable condition. Police continue to investigate the fatal crash, reviewing both the condition of the vehicle and the road to determine contributing factors, but early reports suggest driver inexperience played a role.

Ack’s sudden death has sent shockwaves throughout Silver Creek Village and the greater Toledo District. As a ranger, he was known for his dedication to protecting the environment and serving his community. Those who knew him described him as hardworking, responsible, and deeply committed to his role in safeguarding local natural resources.

Neighbors and colleagues shared their grief after hearing of his passing, remembering Ack as a man who was not only respected in his professional duties but also loved as a friend and family member. His death marks a painful loss for his village and leaves behind a void that will be hard to fill.

Police say investigations are ongoing, and once complete, the findings will determine whether charges will be filed against the young driver. Road safety advocates have pointed to this tragedy as another reminder of the importance of proper training, supervision, and enforcement of licensing laws to prevent similar incidents.

For now, Silver Creek and surrounding villages are uniting to support Ack’s family as they grieve the loss of a beloved son of the community. His life and service will be remembered, even as residents struggle to come to terms with a tragedy that could have been prevented.
