RAYNHAM, MASSACHUSETTS — Authorities are investigating a tragic shooting that claimed the lives of two people in a Raynham home on Friday, August 8, 2025. The incident unfolded just after noon when Raynham Police responded to a 911 call reporting gunfire at a residence on Elm Street West.
Officers arrived at approximately 12:05 p.m. and discovered two young children, ages 6 and 7, unharmed inside the home. Upon further search, police located 37-year-old Marie Hunt and 35-year-old Mark Henshaw in a locked second-floor bedroom. Both were pronounced dead at the scene from apparent gunshot wounds — Hunt from an injury to the abdomen and Henshaw from a gunshot wound to the head.
Authorities confirmed there were no signs of forced entry into the residence, and the scene suggested no ongoing threat to the public. However, the circumstances surrounding the deaths remain unclear. Investigators have not yet determined whether the case is a murder-suicide or a double homicide. Forensic evidence is being analyzed, and witnesses are being interviewed as part of the active investigation being conducted by the Massachusetts State Police, the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, and Raynham Police Department.
Family members are grappling with the sudden loss. Hunt’s brother, Justin Firsch, described her as a vibrant and supportive woman who had served as a prison guard in Bridgewater for nearly eight years. Firsch admitted he knew little about Henshaw or the nature of his relationship with Hunt. “It doesn’t make sense. We have no answers right now,” he said.
The tragedy has left deep emotional scars on the family, particularly for Hunt’s children and a 20-year-old nephew who has now lost both parents — his father years earlier and now his mother. The children are currently in the care of their father.
The locked bedroom, lack of forced entry, and discovery of both victims in bed have raised lingering questions within the community. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
As the investigation continues, friends, neighbors, and relatives are remembering Hunt and Henshaw while awaiting clarity on what happened inside the Elm Street home.
