BOZEMAN, MT — A quiet Sunday afternoon in Bozeman took a devastating turn when a man died by suicide outside the Walmart located at 1500 N. 7th Avenue.
The Bozeman Police Department (BPD) confirmed that officers were dispatched to the store at approximately 2:18 PM on August 10, 2025, after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, authorities found an adult male who had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head at the store’s main entrance.
Emergency medical teams were called to the scene, but the man was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival. His identity has not been released pending notification of family.
For safety and investigative purposes, BPD partially evacuated the store, asking some customers to exit while cordoning off the entrance area. Despite the gravity of the incident, police emphasized there was no ongoing threat to shoppers, staff, or the surrounding community.
