Lawrence ‘Paw Paw’ Brantley, 18, of Lubbock, Dies Unexpectedly, Loved Ones Remember His Vibrant Spirit


With hearts heavy with grief yet filled with gratitude for the time we were blessed to share, the family of Lawrence “Paw Paw” Brantley announces his passing at the young age of 18. Lawrence was born on August 25, 2006, in Lubbock, Texas, and although his earthly journey was brief, the impact he made on the lives of those around him will never fade.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Luke Baptist Church, with interment to follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitations on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Griffin Mortuary to pay their respects and share cherished memories.


A Life Full of Energy and Promise

Lawrence, affectionately known as “Paw Paw,” was a student at Monterey High School where he was admired for his athleticism, charisma, and big heart. He was a natural-born leader, known for his high-spirited nature and his love of laughter. Paw Paw enjoyed pulling lighthearted pranks on his siblings, and his smile had a way of brightening any room he entered.

Sports were a central part of Lawrence’s life. As a point guard in basketball, he showed agility, vision, and determination, earning the respect of both teammates and coaches. On the football field, he was described as “raw talent,” excelling at running back and safety but versatile enough to play any position given to him. His drive, athletic skill, and work ethic gave him a promising future that many believed could take him far.

Beyond sports, Lawrence was devoted to his family and friends. He was especially proud of being a loving father, a role he embraced with maturity and tenderness beyond his years. Those who knew him best will remember his fly swag, quick wit, sense of humor, and unwavering loyalty.


Respected and Loved by Many

Teachers, coaches, and mentors consistently described Lawrence as a respectful, kind, and hardworking young man. While his playful personality made him the life of any gathering, his character and manners left a lasting impression on adults and peers alike. His legacy is one of love, resilience, and joy, and his memory will continue to inspire those who carry him in their hearts.


Family and Loved Ones

Lawrence’s passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of many. He is preceded in death by his great-grandmother Ms. Willie “Cookie” Brantley, great-grandmother Cindy Kate Foster, baby cousin Nicholas “Baby Nick” Hodge, cousin Aaliyah Traylor, aunt Mona Austin, and uncle Marshone Sheppard.

He is lovingly remembered and survived by his parents, Lawrence Brantley (Ashati) and Myesha Thomas (Terry); his grandmothers, Amberlene Brantley and Detrease Thomas; his grandfathers, Lawrence Ward “BB” and Donald Walker (Shanna); his daughter, Leiani Adame; his siblings, Laniya Brantley, Ran’asia Williams, Sa’niya Brantley, Bri’ele Davis, Zyrin Brantley, Kamri Brantley, Genesis Brantley, Farrian Taylor, LaTraviah Brantley, Lyric Hodge, Giovanni Brantley, and Ze’courian Brantley; and his half-brothers, Dametrius Willis, Davante Stidam, and Byron Stidam.

He also leaves behind a large circle of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and countless friends who cherished his presence and will forever hold his memory close.

A Legacy That Lives On

Though his time was short, Lawrence “Paw Paw” Brantley lived with a fullness of spirit that touched everyone he met. His laughter, his loyalty, and his love for life will remain as guiding lights for those who mourn his passing. As his family, friends, and community gather to celebrate his life, they will continue to carry forward the joy, strength, and love he so freely gave.
