Chris Stansik Obituary: Remembering the Life and Legacy of Former Adrian College Bulldog and Hall of Famer

The Adrian College community, along with countless friends and loved ones, is mourning the sudden loss of Chris Stansik, a beloved former Bulldog hockey standout, who passed away unexpectedly this past week at just 39 years old. Born on February 7, 1986, in Livonia, Michigan, Chris grew into an extraordinary athlete, leader, and friend whose influence extended well beyond the rink.

Chris’s journey with Adrian College hockey was historic from the very beginning. On October 15, 2007, in what would become a defining moment for the program, he scored the very first goal in Bulldog hockey history during a commanding 9–2 victory over SUNY Potsdam. That goal set the tone for both his career and the future of Adrian hockey. Over four seasons, Chris amassed 135 points in 113 games—a remarkable achievement for a defenseman—and quickly established himself as a force to be reckoned with through his skill, grit, and leadership.

Throughout his time at Adrian, Chris’s consistency and impact were undeniable. He was a two-time All-American, a four-time All-Conference honoree, and proudly served as Co-Captain during the 2011–2012 season. His leadership both on and off the ice helped shape Adrian College hockey into the respected and competitive program it is today, inspiring countless players who followed in his footsteps.

His legacy was cemented in 2024 when he was inducted into the Adrian College Athletic Hall of Fame, an honor that recognized not only his athletic accomplishments but also the role he played in shaping the identity and culture of the hockey program.

Yet, Chris’s true legacy extended far beyond accolades and statistics. Those who knew him best remember a man of humility, kindness, and dedication. Teammates and friends described him as selfless and supportive—someone who elevated those around him through encouragement, loyalty, and quiet leadership. He was not only a standout athlete but also a cherished friend and mentor whose presence made an enduring impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

A service to honor Chris’s life will be held on Thursday, September 4, at St. Alphonsus Church, 7455 Calhoun St., Dearborn, MI 48126. The viewing will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed immediately by a funeral mass.

Though his passing has left an irreplaceable void, Chris Stansik’s memory will live on through his achievements, his leadership, and the countless lives he touched. His historic first goal, his Hall of Fame induction, and above all, his compassion and character, will continue to inspire generations of Bulldogs and beyond. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
