According to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), on August 25, 2025, at approximately 8:15 pm, the Chickasaw Police Department contacted the MCSO to report a possible fentanyl overdose death at 464 8th Avenue in Chickasaw. The authorities responded promptly to the scene, where they discovered the deceased victim, identified as Kailin Laporte. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death quickly began, as law enforcement aimed to establish the chain of events leading to this tragic outcome.
Initial findings indicated that Kailin Laporte had ingested fentanyl, a highly potent synthetic opioid responsible for numerous overdose deaths nationwide. Further investigation revealed that Laporte’s death was likely the result of illicit drug distribution and consumption, prompting detectives to pursue leads related to the source of the fentanyl. During their inquiries, law enforcement identified two individuals involved in the distribution chain: Payton Beason, born August 11, 2000, and Tyler Thompson, born December 29, 1993.
The investigation led detectives to a hotel in Saraland, where both Beason and Thompson were located. Upon contact, Beason and Thompson agreed to be interviewed regarding the overdose. During the interview, Beason admitted to selling fentanyl to Laporte. She explained that she had supplied the drug to the victim and that Thompson had driven her to the address in Chickasaw to facilitate the transaction. Beason’s statement provided crucial insight into the chain of events that resulted in Laporte’s overdose death.
Further investigation of the hotel room where Beason and Thompson were staying yielded additional evidence supporting their involvement in drug-related activities. Detectives discovered drug paraphernalia, including pipes and other items associated with drug use, as well as a significant amount of white powder, presumed to be fentanyl. Cash was also recovered from the scene, indicating possible drug sales and transactions. These findings reinforced the suspicion that the individuals were actively involved in the sale and use of controlled substances.
As a result of their findings, Beason was arrested on multiple charges, including two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Manslaughter, and warrants for Possession/Receiving Controlled Substance and Possession of Controlled Substance from the Saraland Police Department. Her arrest underscores the seriousness of her involvement in the fentanyl distribution that contributed to Laporte’s death. Thompson was also taken into custody and charged with Use/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of a Controlled Substance, reflecting his role in facilitating drug use.
The case highlights the ongoing opioid crisis and the dangerous consequences of illicit drug distribution. Law enforcement agencies continue to prioritize dismantling drug trafficking networks and holding individuals accountable for drug-related fatalities. The arrest of Beason and Thompson serves as a reminder of the risks associated with fentanyl and the importance of community awareness and prevention efforts to combat substance abuse and overdose deaths. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are working to determine if other individuals were involved or if additional charges are warranted.
