AFFIDAVIT: Universal City Mother Charged with Capital Murder After Fatal Stabbing of 9-Year-Old Son

UNIVERSAL CITY, Texas — Heartbreak and disbelief ripple through Universal City after authorities confirmed that a mother has been charged with capital murder in the stabbing death of her 9-year-old son. An arrest affidavit released Thursday sheds light on the harrowing details of the crime that unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday morning inside a family home.

The Incident

Around 5 a.m. on Wednesday, police responded to a frantic call for help at a residence in the 8200 block of Zodiac Drive. The call was placed by the boy’s father, a China Grove police officer, who told dispatchers that his wife had attacked their child.

When officers arrived, they found 50-year-old Wilma Jamitza Medina inside the home with bloodstains on her clothing. According to the affidavit, the boy’s father was physically restraining her by the leg when law enforcement entered.

Inside the master bedroom, officers discovered the couple’s 9-year-old son unresponsive. Investigators said he had suffered multiple puncture wounds to his torso and neck, injuries that proved fatal despite immediate emergency efforts.

Self-Inflicted Injuries

As police attempted to secure the scene, Medina reportedly broke free and walked into the bathroom, where she retrieved another knife from the counter. She then stabbed herself in the leg while repeatedly saying, “I cannot live without him” and “Let me die.”

Officers quickly intervened, seizing the weapon and later recovering a dagger-style knife in the bedroom, believed to have been used in the attack. The affidavit further states that Medina had also inflicted a stab wound to her chest before authorities arrived.

Statements and Possible Motive

While the precise motive remains unclear, investigators noted that Medina made disturbing statements after the attack. She allegedly told police she believed she was being followed and chased by people, and expressed fear that her son was being harmed at school. She reportedly told officers, “There’s no going back.”

Authorities have not indicated any evidence of threats or outside influences but are continuing to investigate Medina’s mental state leading up to the incident.

Cause of Death

Officials confirmed that the 9-year-old boy died from multiple puncture wounds to both sides of his neck. His tragic death has left neighbors, colleagues of his father, and the wider community stunned and mourning the unimaginable loss.

Charges and Custody

Medina has been charged with capital murder of a person under 10 years of age, one of the most serious criminal charges under Texas law. She remains in custody with her bond set at $600,000.

Community Reaction

Universal City residents expressed sorrow as news of the tragedy spread. The involvement of the boy’s father, a law enforcement officer, has drawn further attention to the devastating circumstances. Police officials and neighbors alike have extended condolences, acknowledging the profound grief the family now faces.

Counseling and support services are expected to be made available to the community and to officers who responded to the horrific scene.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities are still piecing together the timeline and underlying causes of the incident. While Medina’s comments suggest paranoia and fear, investigators have yet to determine whether mental health struggles played a role in the events that unfolded.

For now, the case stands as one of the most tragic in recent memory for the Universal City and China Grove communities—a reminder of the devastating consequences of untreated mental health issues and family crises.
