The Crash on I-95
According to Connecticut State Police, the accident unfolded around 7:42 a.m. near Exit 64 in Clinton when a tractor-trailer traveling north lost its cargo of plywood sheets. The heavy boards scattered across the southbound lanes, creating chaos as drivers attempted to avoid the debris.
The situation quickly escalated into a four-vehicle collision, with cars striking each other as well as the concrete median barrier and metal guardrail. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, where they found multiple vehicles damaged and drivers in need of urgent medical attention.
Nick Kupec sustained critical injuries in the collision. He was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, but despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was sadly pronounced dead.
Three additional motorists were also taken to Middlesex Health Shoreline Medical Center in Westbrook. Two suffered minor injuries, while the third was evaluated and later released. The tractor-trailer driver, employed by Texas-based Alonzo W Griffin Enterprises LLC, and a passenger inside the truck were not injured. The company has not yet issued a statement regarding the accident.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) reported that the Route 145 overpass, which crosses I-95, sustained damage in the aftermath of the crash and was temporarily closed for safety inspections.
