The Ballinger community is mourning the tragic loss of Anthony Miguel Leija, a 33-year-old husband, father, and friend who died in a rollover crash on Saturday evening, September 6, 2025.
The Accident
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the crash occurred at approximately 8:35 p.m. on County Road 287, about six miles west of Ballinger. Authorities report that Leija was behind the wheel of a Chevy Silverado when the vehicle veered off the road under circumstances that remain under investigation.
In an attempt to regain control, Leija is believed to have overcorrected, which caused the truck to overturn before coming to rest in a nearby field. He was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover and, tragically, was not wearing a seatbelt. Despite immediate response efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Lane Pinckney.
DPS troopers continue to examine the cause of the accident, including whether road conditions, speed, or other factors may have played a role.
