The Lewis Center community and the Olentangy Local School District are heartbroken following the tragic loss of Ella Terese Banks, a 14-year-old ninth grader at Olentangy High School, who died by suicide on Monday, September 15, 2025.

A Beloved Daughter, Sister, and Friend

Ella was the treasured daughter of Eian Banks (Kathleen) and Rebecca Bayzie (Nathan), and the loving big sister to Terrence, Elise, Cora, and EJ. She will also be deeply missed by her grandparents—Claudia and the late Terrence Tench, Steve and Celeste Bayzie, Randy Banks, Wendy Schiefer, Elizabeth and Kevin Hampton, and Christopher and Angela Miller—as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who held her close in their hearts.

A Life Full of Joy and Passion

Ella lived her life with vibrant energy and a joyful spirit. She loved horses and horseback riding, and was actively involved in volleyball, softball, and cheerleading. Whether competing on the field, sharing laughter at a sleepover, or dancing to her favorite songs in her room, Ella’s presence radiated light. She had a special love for movies, often recreating favorite scenes with friends and siblings.

Outdoors, Ella found peace and happiness—especially when swinging outside, her laughter echoing through the yard. Friends and family say her enthusiasm and zest for life were infectious, making her a source of happiness for everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Devoted Sister and Role Model

Above all, Ella embraced her role as a big sister with devotion and pride. As the eldest of her generation, she naturally stepped into the role of protector, mentor, and playmate. Wise beyond her years, yet full of fun and curiosity, she brought warmth, guidance, and unconditional love to her siblings and friends.

Grounded in Faith

Ella was recently confirmed at Assumption Church, where she openly proclaimed her love for Jesus Christ. Her faith was a source of strength and comfort, shaping her values and guiding her through life’s challenges.

Funeral arrangements have been set to honor Ella’s life. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 5:00–8:00 p.m. at Fortuna Funeral Home, 7076 Brecksville Road, Independence, Ohio.
