It is with profound sadness that we remember Rachel Hagg, a bright and compassionate soul whose presence left a lasting mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born and raised in Ankeny, Iowa, Rachel carried the warmth, humility, and curiosity of her Midwestern roots into every place she called home. In recent years, she made Sydney, Australia her base, where she pursued further studies and cultivated a life rich in purpose, connection, and growth.
Rachel was a talented finance professional whose early career included work with Wells Fargo Home Mortgage and later her participation in the Finance Rotation Program at Collins Aerospace, where colleagues admired her sharp intellect, diligence, and collaborative approach. She approached every challenge with a careful mind and a generous heart, making her not only a skilled professional but a trusted friend and teammate.
In 2020, Rachel broadened her horizons by enrolling in the Sustainability Analysis program at the University of Sydney, reflecting her deep desire to contribute meaningfully to global sustainability efforts. She approached her studies with rigor and curiosity, pairing analytical precision with empathy and thoughtfulness.
Those who knew Rachel recall a young woman of extraordinary warmth and authenticity. She was quick-witted, fiercely herself, and effortlessly kind. She had a rare ability to make strangers feel welcomed and friends feel deeply valued. Whether she was discussing complex finance models, debating sustainability issues, or sharing a quiet coffee on a rainy Sydney street, Rachel brought energy, humor, and sincerity to every interaction.
Her friendships were central to her life. One close friend shared:
“Rachel Hagg was my closest and best friend, and a profoundly bright light in the world. She was fiercely herself, sharp, thoughtful, funny, deeply passionate, and kind… Life without her feels emptier and less welcoming. Rachel, you are my best friend, and I am endlessly grateful for that privilege. When our paths eventually cross again, I cannot wait to hear about all the adventures you’ll be going on now (and heaven’s new sustainability program). I love you, Rach.”
These sentiments reflect the experiences of countless others who were touched by Rachel’s presence—friends, family, classmates, and colleagues alike. She inspired those around her to explore, learn, and embrace life fully, whether by running a half-marathon, traveling to new cities, or simply engaging in meaningful conversation.
Rachel’s family, friends, and community across continents will forever treasure her laughter, intelligence, kindness, and unwavering authenticity. Though her life was tragically cut short, her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched, from Ankeny to Sydney, leaving behind a legacy of generosity, joy, and inspiration.
