Victims Identified in Glenwood Shooting and House Fire: Stevie Rockwell and Brandon Oman Confirmed Deceased

GLENWOOD, IOWA — Authorities have confirmed that the victims of Wednesday evening’s fatal shooting and subsequent house fire in Glenwood are Stevie Rockwell and her husband, Brandon Oman.

The tragic incident unfolded just before 8 p.m. at a residence located at 409 North Grove Street. Both Rockwell and Oman were pronounced dead at the scene, while a third individual remains hospitalized in critical condition.

According to witness reports and statements from local authorities, the suspected gunman has been identified as Dennis Burrell. He is believed to have shot the victims before setting the residence on fire. Neighbors told Channel 2 NOW that Burrell lived at the address where the attack took place.

During a late-night press briefing, Glenwood Police Chief Eric Johansen confirmed that officers from the Glenwood Police Department and the Mills County Sheriff’s Office responded to an active shooter call at the scene. The area was quickly secured, and a “person of interest” was taken into custody in connection with the case.

“This has been determined to be an isolated incident,” Chief Johansen stated. “There is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation is active and ongoing, with support from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Mills County Sheriff’s Office.”

The house fire, which followed the shooting, is being treated as part of the larger investigation. Authorities are working to determine the sequence of events and the suspect’s motive.

Chief Johansen commended the rapid response of local law enforcement and emergency crews, many of whom were attending a community event nearby when the call came in.

“The swift coordination between agencies demonstrated the strength of our local partnerships,” he noted, adding that the Iowa State Patrol and other regional units also contributed to the prompt containment of the situation.

Officials plan to release further information as the investigation develops and the scene is fully processed.

In the meantime, road closures near the intersection of Elm Street and North Myrtle Street, including parts of 4th and 5th Streets, are expected to be lifted by Thursday morning.
