Sturgill succumbed to his injuries on Saturday afternoon, August 23, 2025, following the violent incident that took place the previous evening near North Main Street and Fourth Street, directly across from the Cumberland County Courthouse.
The shooting occurred around 5:45 p.m. on Friday, August 22, during a busy time of day when the streets were populated with pedestrians and traffic. Investigators say the confrontation began in the roadway and quickly escalated into violence, culminating in the fatal shooting.
