Human Remains Discovered in Tualatin River, Oregon; Homicide Investigation Underway

Authorities in Oregon have launched a homicide investigation after human remains were discovered in the Tualatin River near Rood Bridge Park in Hillsboro, Washington County.

The discovery was made on Monday, August 11, when a local kayaker spotted what appeared to be a human limb floating near the riverbank. Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and confirmed that the remains were human. Additional body parts were later recovered during a search of the area.

Officials say the condition of the remains suggests the death occurred recently, though the exact time frame is still being determined by medical examiners. Due to the advanced level of decomposition in certain parts, investigators have not yet been able to identify the victim.

In a press briefing, Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. Alexis Jackson stated:

> “We are treating this case as a suspicious death, and given the circumstances, we believe foul play is involved. Our detectives are working around the clock to piece together the events that led to this tragic discovery.”

The Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death, as well as to attempt to establish the victim’s identity through DNA analysis and dental records.

The area around Rood Bridge Park was temporarily closed to the public as crime scene investigators combed the riverbanks and surrounding trails for evidence. Divers from the county’s search and rescue team were also deployed to assist in locating any additional remains or items linked to the case.

Residents in the area expressed shock at the news, describing the park and river as generally peaceful and family-friendly. “It’s scary to think something like this happened here,” said local resident Amanda Lee, who lives nearby. “We usually come to this park to relax, not to hear about a possible murder.”

Police are urging anyone with information about suspicious activity in the area over the past week to come forward. Tipsters can contact the Washington County Sheriff’s Office or leave anonymous information through the Crime Stoppers tip line.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities remain cautious about releasing further details, emphasizing that protecting the integrity of the case is a top priority.
