The Maryland comic book community is grieving the sudden loss of Randy Myers, founder and owner of Collectors Corner, a cornerstone of fandom and pop culture in Parkville for more than 20 years. His unexpected passing has left family, friends, staff, and countless loyal customers heartbroken.

In an official statement, Collectors Corner staff expressed their sorrow with “deep and profound sadness,” reflecting on the impact Myers had on both the business and the people who walked through its doors.

“Randy and the stores that he has created have meant so much to so many and touched countless lives. He has laughed and cried with many of you, and shared in all of your joy and sadness. He has always been grateful and thankful for all of you,” the message read.

Myers opened Collectors Corner in September 2001 on Harford Road in Parkville. What started as a small comic shop grew into one of the largest and most respected stores of its kind in the region. Beyond comics, the shop expanded to include manga, retro video games, posters, DVDs, collectibles, and an expansive back-issue catalog that drew fans from across Maryland and beyond.

More than a retail store, Collectors Corner became a welcoming hub — a place where fans built friendships, shared their passions, and felt part of a community united by a love of storytelling and pop culture. Myers’ dedication helped cultivate a loyal following, often referred to as the “CC Army.”

Store representatives have pledged to carry on Myers’ legacy by continuing his mission of fostering community and connection. “This is a place that is more than a store. You all are friends, family, and cherished CC Army members. Moving forward, we will only share in the joy and memories that Randy has brought to all of us,” the statement continued.

The Bel Air location of Collectors Corner will reopen on Tuesday, September 2, with efforts underway to reopen the Parkville shop soon.

For the countless fans, friends, and customers who found joy within Collectors Corner, Randy Myers’ vision and impact will live on. His work turned a comic shop into a gathering place where stories — both on the page and in real life — brought people together.
