Teacher, Mentor, and Guide
Ruben devoted much of his life to education, serving as a piano and music history instructor at YHS Early College Academy and as an adjunct faculty member at El Paso Community College. In these roles, he inspired countless students, nurturing not only their technical abilities but also their confidence and love for music. His teaching style blended encouragement, discipline, and humor, creating a supportive space where his students could thrive.
Colleagues and former pupils often recall how Ruben’s mentorship extended beyond the classroom. He also contributed as a music minister at St. Pius X Catholic Church, an organist at Valley Congregational Church UCC, and a lecturer at UTEP.

He was known for his remarkable ability to sight-read, improvise, and infuse performances with a warmth and spirit that elevated every gathering.
