Union Police Investigating Two Deadly Shootings in One Day, Including the Death of Charles Nathan Crosby

Authorities in Union are working to piece together details surrounding two separate fatal shootings that occurred on Tuesday, incidents that have left residents shaken and deeply concerned about escalating violence in the area.

The first shooting was reported late Tuesday evening outside DD’s Food Mart on South Pinckney Street. Around 10:30 p.m., Union police received reports of an individual firing shots toward people near the store. When officers arrived, they discovered a woman in the parking lot who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Evidence collected at the site revealed multiple shell casings, along with visible property damage, including a shattered window at the store. Authorities confirmed that numerous rounds had been fired, though the victim’s name has not been released as officials work to notify her family.

Earlier in the day, police were called to a residence on South Mountain Street, where they found the body of 67-year-old Charles Nathan Crosby. He was discovered in the yard with what appeared to be a fatal gunshot wound. Investigators confirmed Crosby succumbed to his injuries, though the events that led to the shooting remain unclear.

At this point, investigators have not established a link between the two deadly incidents. No suspects are in custody, and both cases remain open.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is assisting Union police with the investigation, providing support in evidence collection, witness interviews, and crime scene analysis. Officials are urging anyone with information to step forward to aid in the pursuit of justice for the victims and their families.

The back-to-back tragedies have rattled the city of Union, where homicides of this nature are uncommon. Police have increased patrols in affected neighborhoods and assured the public that every resource is being used to bring clarity and accountability.

As the investigation moves forward, family and friends of Charles Crosby are left mourning the loss of a man described by neighbors as a respected and well-known figure in the community. The identity of the woman killed outside DD’s Food Mart will be released once her family has been formally notified.

At present, no arrests have been made, and the motives remain unknown. Authorities emphasize that updates will be shared as soon as new information becomes available.
