Woman Charged with Reckless Homicide and DUI After Fatal Rollover Crash on Route 41 in Highland Park

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. — Authorities have filed reckless homicide and driving under the influence charges against a woman accused of causing a deadly high-speed rollover crash on Route 41 late last year, which left one man dead and others injured.

The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of November 24, 2024, when the Highland Park Police Department and Highland Park Fire Department were dispatched at approximately 3:25 a.m. to the 2300 block of Skokie Valley Road, between Half Day Road and Park Avenue West. First responders arrived to find a chaotic and devastating scene: a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee had rolled over, struck a utility pole, and sustained extensive damage.

According to officials, 34-year-old male passenger was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. Despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger was found trapped inside the wreckage and had to be extricated by firefighters, while additional passengers suffered injuries of varying severity.

Preliminary findings from the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) indicate that the driver, whose name has not yet been publicly released, was traveling at an excessive speed and lost control of the Jeep before the fatal rollover. Investigators say alcohol played a significant role in the incident, prompting the charges of DUI and reckless homicide.

Authorities confirmed that the Jeep was occupied by a total of four people, including the driver. The crash not only claimed the life of one passenger but also left a lasting emotional toll on the survivors and their families.

“This was a preventable tragedy,” a Highland Park city spokesperson said. “The combination of speed, impaired driving, and loss of control turned deadly within seconds.”

The case remains under investigation, with prosecutors preparing for court proceedings in the coming weeks. Officials are urging the public to remember the devastating consequences of impaired driving, which continues to claim lives across Lake County and beyond.
